A61 Shutdown: Lorry Fault Causes 4-Hour Traffic Chaos
A breakdown on the A61 caused a significant traffic disruption yesterday. An articulated lorry suffered a tyre puncture and technical fault in the construction area of Rheinböllen, leading to a full closure of the road. The incident occurred on the Ludwigshafen-bound carriageway, bringing traffic to a standstill. The closure lasted for approximately 4 hours, from around 19:40 until 23:40. Repairing the fault and deploying emergency vehicles took several hours, further prolonging the closure. The full closure of the A61 at this point prevented any passing traffic. This led to substantial tailbacks of several kilometers on both the A61 and the B50, causing significant delays for motorists. The closure was finally lifted at 23:40, allowing traffic to resume. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the incident caused considerable disruption to travel in the area. The name and contact information of the head of the Traffic Management Police Authority in Mainz were not immediately available.
