The Rise of AI in Sports: Revolutionizing Women's Football and Engaging Generation Z

Step Up Your Game: AI in Sports beats the drum for women's football and hooks Generation Z.

PARIS, June 4 - The world of sports is experiencing a technological overhaul, and football is no exception. AI-powered gadgets, like Poland's Re.Spo Vision, are shining a spotlight on women's football and reigniting Gen Z's interest in sports. Pawel Osterreicher, a co-founder at Re.Spo Vision, shared insights with AFP about their mission.

Re.Spo Vision, known for its unique AI-driven data collection, has two main objectives - women's football and refreshing Gen Z's sports enthusiasm. The company, boasting clients like Conmebol and Concacaf, can gather data from matches using just a single camera angle. This approach makes data collection cheaper, as players don't need to wear any technology, and eliminates the need for multiple cameras.

Last year, Re.Spo Vision's technology was used at the Copa America and recently received FIFA certification. The program can provide data on football aspects that human eyes cannot spot, such as player acceleration, passing lanes, heat maps, and zones of control.

Osterreicher emphasized that AI can level the playing field for both established powerhouses and underdogs, just as it did for the second-tier side Wisla Krakow in their journey to lift the Polish Cup in 2024. However, Re.Spo Vision won't focus on men's football events like the World Cup or this year's World Club Cup. Instead, the team has set their sights on the inaugural women's World Club Cup in 2028 and addressing the loss of Gen Z's sports interest.

Gen Z represents a significant audience shift, with almost half of them preferring online content over traditional TV[1]. Osterreicher stated, "Gen Z is all about instant gratification. I have five seconds, or they're swiping away. So, women's sports offer potential opportunities for sports to attract younger audiences because they're bored with the same routines and the same faces."

Re.Spo Vision aims to recapture Gen Z's attention by developing innovative content, such as 3D game recreations, which can captivate younger viewers and hold their interest[1]. Osterreicher concluded, "Sports must reinvent themselves to compete with the TikToks, Netflix, and mobile games of the world. It's not just about the technology, but rather how we present and serve sports content to keep the younger generation engaged."

  2. In the realm of sports, AI technology is not only revolutionizing women's football by providing detailed analysis, but it also offers the potential to attract younger viewers with innovative content such as 3D game recreations.
  3. Re.Spo Vision, a pioneer in AI sports technology, is focusing on the inaugural women's World Club Cup in 2028 and capturing Gen Z's attention, understanding their preference for instant gratification and the need for fresh, engaging content in sports.
