ACMA Renews Global Fight Against Scams with UCENet MOU

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has renewed its commitment to international cooperation in the fight against scams, unsolicited telemarketing, and spam. The ACMA, represented by its Chair Nerida O'Loughlin, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the global Unsolicited Communications Enforcement Network (UCENet), joining five other nations in this strategic engagement.

The MOU renewal, facilitated by the ACMA's director involved in international restructuring, will enable further information-sharing and collaboration between international regulatory agencies. This comes as UCENet members, including the ACMA, meet in Dublin, Ireland, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The ACMA will utilise this MOU to aid in cross-border scam investigations and compliance operations.

The renewed agreement strengthens strategic cooperation between Australia, Canada, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Together, these nations aim to combat unwanted calls, SMS messages, and emails that plague consumers worldwide.

With the renewed MOU, the ACMA reaffirms its dedication to global cooperation in combating unsolicited communications. This international collaboration will enhance Australia's ability to protect its citizens from deceptive practices and ensure a safer digital environment.
