Adventurous Motorcyclists: Yamaha Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT for Novices and Pros

New Fourth-Generation Yamaha Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT Offer Enhanced Sport-Touring Experience

Yamaha has unveiled the fourth generation of its popular Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT touring motorcycles, boasting improved performance, ergonomics, and equipment.

Key Features and Differences

Both the Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT share the same 689cc parallel-twin engine, offering a balanced performance geared for sport-touring with smooth power delivery and manageable torque. However, the Tracer 7 GT offers advanced touring features, such as electronic semi-active suspension, full-color TFT display with smartphone integration, cruise control, heated grips, and factory-fitted hard luggage. The Tracer 7, on the other hand, comes with a more basic suspension setup, analog or simpler digital instrumentation, and lacks cruise control or heated grips as standard.

Pricing and Equipment

The Tracer 7 GT commands a higher price due to its added technology, comfort, and touring equipment. The Tracer 7 is positioned as a more affordable option, targeting riders who want a lightweight sport tourer without premium electronic aids. The Tracer 7 starts from €10,424, while the Tracer 7 GT starts from €11,924.

Comparing with Tracer 9 Models

The Tracer 9 and Tracer 9 GT, with their higher displacement and more extensive electronics, offer a more powerful and feature-rich touring experience. The Tracer 7 models serve as a more entry-level sport tourer in the lineup, less powerful but agile and lighter.

Design and Performance

The Tracer 7 features updated design elements, including animated position lights and a more dynamic appearance. The Tracer 7 GT is equipped with cases, main stands, comfort seats, rubberized footrests, heated grips, extra-large windscreen, and three riding modes. The engine of the Tracer 7 remains a source of joy, producing 54 kW/73 PS and delivering good performance and economy. The payload for the GT version of the Tracer 7 is somewhat meager, at just under 180 kilograms.

Handling and Braking

The Tracer 7's suspension has been further fine-tuned with a new USD fork and a longer swingarm, reducing dive under hard braking. The handlebar is better positioned, being two centimeters wider and mounted three centimeters higher. The tank volume has been increased from 17 to 18 liters, providing a potential range of around 400 kilometers. The clutch and the radially mounted brake pads equipped three-disc braking system, including ABS, are easy to operate and perform excellently.

In Conclusion

The main differences between the Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT lie in their touring comfort, technology, and equipment rather than in engine performance. The Tracer 7 GT provides a more feature-rich, comfortable, and premium package at a higher price point. The Tracer 7, on the other hand, offers a more affordable and basic touring experience. Both models are designed to deliver a sporty and enjoyable touring experience for riders seeking a balance between performance and comfort.

The Commission has also been consulted on the draft directive relating to the advanced technology used in the new Tracer 7 and Tracer 7 GT, such as the full-color TFT display and smartphone integration found in the Tracer 7 GT. Perhaps, in the future, the Commission might consider the potential impact of gadgets like these on road safety and the environment.
