Hugging Face and The Robot Studio reveals humanoid robot HopeJr, set to debut by the end of 2025

Hugging Face, a renowned machine learning company, is branching out into robotics with their latest collaboration with The Robot Studio. The fruit of this partnership, HopeJr, is an open-source humanoid robot slated to release potentially towards the end of 2025.

In a video released on X, it becomes evident that HopeJr boasts impressive range of movement capabilities, with 66 independent movements at its disposal. This unprecedented articulation enables the robot to walk and manipulate objects with precision.

The video, shared by The Robot Studio on YouTube and showcased at the Humanoids Summit in London, depicts HopeJr fully assembled for the first time. While the video does not capture the robot walking, the caption claims this capability is among its repertoire.

According to Hugging Face, some units of HopeJr will commence shipping by the end of 2025. The robot is expected to cost approximately $3,000, positioning it as an affordable alternative for a full-sized humanoid robot with such advanced capabilities.

The open-source nature of HopeJr grants users the freedom to assemble, modify, and understand its design and functions. This openness aims to democratize robotics, preventing monopolization by large corporations using proprietary systems.

Hugging Face has integrated HopeJr with their AI platform and the LeRobot ecosystem, acquired from Pollen Robotics. This support simplifies innovation and customization for developers, researchers, and hobbyists.

With HopeJr, Hugging Face poses an exciting step forward for accessible, customizable humanoid robots, offering opportunities in AI testing and development.
