AI adoption is becoming more prevalent among Estonian businesses

In a recent survey conducted by Statistics Estonia, the official statistics agency of Estonia, it has been revealed that the adoption and usage of artificial intelligence (AI) by Estonian enterprises are on the rise.

The survey, which focused on the use of AI by Estonian businesses, unveiled that 5% of companies in Estonia have already incorporated at least one AI technology in their operations. This marks a 2% increase from the use of AI in 2021.

E-mail services are the main type of cloud service bought by companies, with 48% of enterprises relying on them. The survey also highlighted that nearly two percent of companies have developed AI technologies in-house.

The growth in AI adoption by Estonian enterprises is part of a broader European trend of increasing AI integration. According to the European AI Barometer 2025, more than half of organisations across various sectors report positive financial impacts from AI adoption[1].

In sectors relevant to Estonia like finance, insurance, and information and communication, AI is driving efficiency and innovation. Within finance and fund administration—closely related to insurance and financial services—AI is transforming operations by automating manual processes, streamlining documentation, enabling real-time data access, and improving client interactions through natural language processing and predictive analytics[2].

Given Estonia’s strong digital infrastructure and reputation as an advanced digital society, it is likely that the country’s sectors such as information and communication are experiencing rapid AI integration akin to European trends. Across companies globally, especially in software-related fields, AI adoption has reached near saturation, with 97.5% of companies incorporating AI into their internal processes by 2025[3].

While the sources provided do not have specific data, the European context indicates varying AI impact by sector, with advanced manufacturing and agriculture seeing high gains, while sectors like government lag somewhat behind[1]. Estonia’s energy companies may be beginning to adopt AI for optimization and efficiency but probably at an earlier stage compared to finance or information technologies.

In summary, Estonian enterprises are evolving along a strong European current of increasing AI adoption, with particularly advanced implementation in finance, insurance, and information and communication, and growing engagement from energy and other sectors as well. The transformative effects of AI on profitability, efficiency, and service customization are becoming evident.
