Originally known as Project Tailwind, NotebookLM was unveiled at Google I/O 2023 and has been in development within Google's experimental Google Labs division.

To cater to a wider audience, NotebookLM will soon be available in other countries, with users aged 18 and above eligible to use the app. The app is set to offer video and audio overview features in 80 languages, making it accessible to users worldwide.
