AI Standards Estimated to Be Set Within the Next Two to Three Years by DIN (German Institute for Standardization)

Christoph Winterhalter, the CEO of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN), has expressed his belief that Germany should take a leading role in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) standards. In an interview, he highlighted the country's economic structure, with many small specialists, as a competitive advantage.

Winterhalter's vision for DIN includes presenting a recommendation on AI standards at the upcoming Digital Summit of the federal government. He anticipates that in 'two to three years', there will be application areas where standards for AI will be used as a certification basis.

A recent study by the TÜV Association revealed that 90 percent of companies in Germany are calling for clearer legal guidelines for the use of AI. In response, DIN is working towards creating technical standardization that enables many small and medium-sized companies to compete with large digital corporations.

To achieve this, DIN, under Winterhalter's plan, would offer access to content from standards via a cloud infrastructure, similar to iCloud. This move is aimed at eliminating duplicate data storage and non-value-adding administration in the use of standards.

Winterhalter is confident that Germany can master integrating AI securely into ongoing systems, such as production, better than others. His ultimate goal is to create a streaming service for standards, with Gemini being a potential candidate for realizing this vision.

The proposed changes by Winterhalter aim to fundamentally transform the work of the German Institute for Standardization, making it an IT service provider offering a cloud-based streaming service for standards. This shift is expected to position Germany at the forefront of AI standards development and foster a competitive environment for businesses of all sizes.
