Android Spotify users can now synchronize their music sessions together with the introduction of the new "Jam" feature

In an exciting development, Spotify has recently unveiled a series of new features, including the much-anticipated "Jam" collaborative music queue for cars and the long-awaited lossless audio streaming tier called "Spotify HiFi".

The Jam feature, now available on Android Auto, allows multiple users to contribute to a shared music queue. The host can initiate a Jam session, while guests can join by scanning a QR code displayed on the car's screen. Guests can also be removed by the host as needed.

The new "Jam" feature can be found in Spotify's 9.0.58.596 version for Android phones, located in the top right corner on the app's "Now Playing" screen. Alongside this, a new "Downloaded" section for offline music has been added to the Library.

In addition to these updates, Spotify is preparing to launch its long-anticipated lossless audio tier called "Spotify HiFi". This feature is expected to offer 24-bit/44.1 kHz lossless streaming quality, a significant improvement over the current 320 kbps (variable bitrate) streaming limit. The new tier is likely to be released late in 2025 and may come as a $5 add-on to existing Spotify subscription plans.

The presence of feature-related app code suggests that the rollout of Spotify HiFi is nearing release by the end of 2025. The new tier will compete directly with Apple Music's lossless and spatial audio offerings, but it will not include spatial audio enhancement in its initial launch. The exact launch date is still not official, but the anticipation is palpable.

The addition of a new floating Search shortcut to the app further enhances the user experience, making it easier for users to find their favourite tracks.

These updates seem to be related to Google's announcements regarding Android Auto, indicating a continued collaboration between the two tech giants. The new features are a testament to Spotify's commitment to providing an immersive and collaborative music experience for its users.
