Anker Announces Additional Power Bank Recall: Learn How to Obtain a Replacement for Free or Receive a Gift Card

Anker, a leading technology company, has expanded its global recall of some Power Bank products following reports of 19 instances where the devices caught fire or exploded. The recall, which was initially announced in June, now includes additional models sold between August 2023 and June 2025.

The recalled models include the Anker Power Bank 10000 Model A1257, Anker Power Bank 20000 Model A1647, Anker MagGo Power Bank 10000 Model A1652, Anker Zolo Power Bank 20000 Model A1681, and Anker Zolo Power Bank 20000 Model A1689. These products were purchased between June 1, 2016, and Dec. 31, 2022.

Customers can verify their serial number at a webpage provided by Anker to check if their PowerCore has been recalled. If the serial number is worn off or not visible, customers should contact Anker for guidance.

Anker launched a Battery Safety Program to provide additional transparency around its safety protocols. The recalled PowerCore devices contain the letters '1', 'L', 'I', '2' and 'Z', and do not use the letters 'O' and 'I'.

Don Fountain, a civil trial attorney, warns consumers not to store or use portable chargers in a confined or unventilated area that could cause overheating, and to not leave them plugged into home electrical systems for extended periods. He also advises against leaving portable chargers plugged in overnight or when on vacation.

The recall was initiated due to the 19 reports of the portable chargers catching fire and exploding. Some international airlines have begun limiting the types of lithium chargers fliers can bring on planes due to risks of overheating.

Customers who have a recalled PowerCore device are required to submit a photo of the device, showing the model number, serial number, their name, date of the photo, and the word "recalled" written on the device. Customers must also submit photo evidence of ownership and prove they've disposed of the PowerCore devices properly to receive a replacement or a $30 gift card for Anker's online store.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice about the Anker recall on September 18, 2023. More than 1.1 million of the recalled products were sold in the US.

Customers can contact Anker for additional questions by emailing [email protected] with "Anker Recall" in the subject line or calling 800-988-7973. Fountain has handled cases involving fires and explosions caused by lithium batteries in a variety of products, including power tools, e-bikes, phones, scooters, children's toys, battery packs, and others. He advises consumers to always follow safety guidelines when using portable chargers.

Anker advises customers not to dispose of the recalled device until they receive confirmation that it's eligible for the recall. The company encourages customers to take the necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
