Announcing the Launch of Annual FASTag Pass on August 15: Details on Cost, Guidelines, Limits, Duration, Perks, and Purchase Procedures

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new initiative to simplify toll payments and enhance the driving experience for private vehicle owners. The FASTag Annual Pass, announced by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, in June, aims to alleviate long-standing concerns about toll plazas within a 60-kilometer radius.

The FASTag Annual Pass offers unlimited toll crossings (up to 200 trips) on NHAI and MoRTH-managed national highway toll plazas for one year or until 200 tolls, whichever comes first. To purchase this pass, users can download the Rajmarg Yatra app or visit the official NHAI or MoRTH website.

Here's a step-by-step guide to purchasing the FASTag Annual Pass:

  1. Access the official platform: Download and open the Rajmarg Yatra app or go to the official NHAI or MoRTH website.
  2. Log in or enter vehicle details: Use your registered mobile number to log in, or directly enter your vehicle registration number and existing FASTag ID.
  3. Verify eligibility: The system will check that your FASTag is active, correctly linked to the vehicle, and not blacklisted.
  4. Select the Annual Pass option: Choose the ₹3,000 annual pass plan from the recharge or payment options.
  5. Make payment: Pay online via UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking. FASTag wallet balance cannot be used to pay for the annual pass.
  6. Activation: The annual pass will be linked to your existing FASTag and vehicle registration, and gets activated within about 2 hours.
  7. Confirmation: You will receive an SMS confirming successful activation of your FASTag annual pass.

It's important to note that the FASTag Annual Pass is valid for 365 days or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first. The pass applies only to private non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, and does not cover state or private toll roads.

The FASTag Annual Pass is non-transferable and non-refundable. Once the trip limit or validity ends, the system will automatically revert to the regular pay-per-use FASTag model. The pass does not have an auto-renewal feature; users must reapply after expiry.

Traveling via state highways and municipal toll roads will incur standard FASTag charges. The pass is limited to national highways and expressways under NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The FASTag Annual Pass allows for contactless transactions, like the standard FASTag.

Starting August 15, users can purchase the FASTag Annual Pass through the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/MoRTH website. The pass aims to provide faster, cheaper, and more convenient highway travel, making journeys smoother and more enjoyable for all private vehicle owners.
