Updated App Permissions and Privacy Dashboard become More Expressive in June's Google Play System Update

App permissions and privacy settings become more expressive with the June update to Google Play system, offering users enhanced control over the data they share with apps.

In a significant move towards enhancing user privacy and interaction, Google has rolled out the M3 Expressive update for Android 16 QPR1 system UI. This update brings a fresh, modern, and tactile Material You design to privacy-related UI components.

Key changes include a revamped Privacy dashboard, which now utilizes M3 Expressive containers throughout, including the top donut chart and the permissions list. The new design, while visually richer, may appear somewhat more cluttered compared to the flatter design of the previous version, which was from May.

The app permission prompts have also been updated, offering pill-shaped buttons labeled “While using the app,” “Only this time,” and “Don’t allow.” This design change aims to improve clarity and reduce accidental taps by visually differentiating options.

Other visual tweaks include improved spacing and the adoption of the latest Material 3 toggle style in the Security and Privacy controls. For instance, the "Security" grouping in Settings > Security & privacy now boasts better spacing around checkmarks.

To access these updates, users can navigate to Settings > Security & privacy > System & updates > Google Play system update and update their system accordingly. The M3 Expressive rollout for Android 16 QPR1 continues today.

The revamped usage timeline in the Privacy dashboard, previously flat, is no longer as such. It reflects the revamp seen across the dashboard, offering a more detailed and visually engaging presentation of permission usage data for Location, Camera, and Microphone.

This update is part of the June 1, 2025 Google Play system update for Android 16 QPR1 Beta users. With these changes, Google aims to improve user interaction and experience with privacy controls on Android 16 QPR1, making privacy management more accessible and intuitive.

Technology plays a crucial role in the M3 Expressive update for Android 16 QPR1 system UI, as it introduces a more modern and tactile design to the Privacy dashboard and other UI components. The update also utilizes the latest Material 3 toggle style, demonstrating Google's ongoing effort to improve user interaction and experience with technology on Android devices.
