Apple allegedly developing Vision Pro 2 with M4 Chip for enhanced comfort: Here's the current info
In a significant stride towards augmented reality (AR) technology, Apple is reportedly developing its second-generation Vision Pro headset. The device, rumoured to be lighter and more comfortable, is expected to be powered by Apple's M4 processor, marking a substantial upgrade from the current M2 chip in the first-generation model.
The M4 chip, which is already in use in the latest iPad Pro, iMac, and MacBook models, offers improvements such as two additional CPU cores, double the RAM, faster RAM speeds, and 8 billion transistors, promising much better performance. Moreover, the new Vision Pro will feature an enhanced Neural Engine with more cores to support advanced AI features and functionality, indicating a clear focus on AI capabilities in the next-gen device.
According to reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next Vision Pro with an M5 chip may arrive by the end of 2025, with the second-generation Apple Vision Pro slated for the second half of 2028. This suggests that an interim M5-powered model could be released as early as late 2025, while the full second-generation Vision Pro, featuring the M4 chip and AI enhancements, is expected around 2028.
Apple is also reportedly working on other wearables, including AR glasses, but no confirmation has been made regarding their launch. If the rumours are true, the second-generation Vision Pro will be the first to get an M4 chip with more than 16 neural engine cores, setting it apart from its predecessor.
The current model of the Apple Vision Pro headset has been criticised for causing neck strain due to its 1.4-pound weight. In response, the company is testing new strap designs to improve comfort, particularly when paired with third-party accessories.
The affordable version of the next-generation Vision Pro headset is not expected to be launched soon. However, it is rumoured to be in development and may launch in 2027 or later.
