Apple introduces its advanced camera technology at a striking photography display of its upcoming generation
In the heart of New York City, the 'Joy in 3 Parts' exhibition is set to open, bringing together the works of renowned artists Inez & Vinoodh, Mickalene Thomas, and Trunk Xu.
Inez & Vinoodh's contribution, titled 'Think LOVE.', is a series of black and white portraits that feature a striking red fabric element. Captured using the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the advanced HDR setting of the device has been utilised to create a dynamic contrast between the vivid red and the monochrome backdrop. One scene in particular showcases a love story between their 20s something son and his girlfriend, with the lovers pulling a red fabric behind them as the sun appears from behind clouds.
Mickalene Thomas, known for her rhinestone-adorned portraits of Black women, has contributed to the exhibition with vibrant images that capture the 'life' that activates Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, New York. Her work explores joy in everyday moments, emphasising the celebration of joy particularly within the Black community. The artist has chosen not to rely on posed portraits, resulting in more honest and authentic depictions. Her work in the exhibition seeks to counter the narrative of African Americans being seen through the lens of labor and endurance, instead focusing on rest as a form of resistance, power, and self-reclamation.
Trunk Xu's contribution to the exhibition does not specify the number of images he has contributed, but his work is staged to celebrate social media culture and our need to capture and share almost every moment of our lives. The artist has used the iPhone 17 Pro Max to shoot multiple individuals involved in different aspects of their daily life, with a degree of self-awareness amplifying the idea that we've all become accustomed to being photographed often. The compositions feature Los Angeles as an emblematic backdrop, with shots taken at iconic locales such as a skatepark, the Santa Monica Pier, and a motel room.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max, first launched in 2023, has transformed the culture of photography, according to Trunk Xu. Equipped with three advanced 48MP Fusion cameras, the device's 4x and 8x-zoom Telephoto capabilities rival those of midrange DSLRs. The accessibility and professional-grade camera capabilities of the iPhone 17 Pro Max have been emphasised in the creation of Trunk Xu's work for the exhibition.
The 'Joy in 3 Parts' exhibition promises to be a vibrant and thought-provoking exploration of life, love, and joy, and is not to be missed.
