Artificial Intelligence is now integrated into Google search for making phone calls - insights provided.
In a groundbreaking move, Google has unveiled a series of AI-powered upgrades to its Search engine, aimed at making it feel less like a search box and more like a smart assistant that gets things done. The updates, which started rolling out on July 16, 2023, include the integration of the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, Deep Search, and AI-powered local business calling.
The Gemini 2.5 Pro model, Google's most advanced AI model, excels at advanced reasoning, math, and coding tasks, providing stronger performance on complex queries. It offers explanations with links for users to learn more and is available as a selectable option under a drop-down menu in AI Mode, while a default AI model remains available for everyday, faster queries.
Deep Search, powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, is designed to handle heavy research requests by issuing hundreds of background searches across the web and summarizing findings into a comprehensive, fully cited report within minutes. Ideal for in-depth work or school projects, big life decisions like buying a home, or financial analysis, Deep Search aims to save users hours of manual research by synthesizing dispersed information into one detailed answer.
The AI-powered local business calling feature allows users to request availability and pricing information from businesses without placing a phone call. This agentic feature is triggered by an option such as “Have AI check prices” when searching for services or local companies. While available to all users in a limited form, AI Pro and Ultra subscribers get higher usage limits.
These advanced AI features are currently exclusive to U.S. users subscribed to Google AI Pro or AI Ultra plans who have opted into AI Mode. Access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search requires selecting these options explicitly within the AI Mode interface, distinguishing them from the default model offered to all users.
The rollout of these features continues Google's trend of shifting Search from a static tool to something more dynamic and interactive. These updates provide a glimpse into where Google is heading with AI: personalized, action-driven, and integrated into everyday search experiences. Businesses maintain control over their information through their Business Profile settings.
