Ather Energy Introduces Battery-on-Demand Service, Purchase Back Option, and Extended Warranty Program
In a bid to make electric mobility more accessible and financially attractive, Ather Energy, an Indian electric vehicle manufacturer founded in 2013, has announced the introduction of its Battery as a Service (BaaS) model. This innovative approach significantly reduces the initial investment for Ather's electric scooters, particularly the Ather Rizta and the 450 Series.
Under the BaaS model, the cost of the battery is spread over 3-4 years based on usage, with a minimum 1,000 km monthly plan. Customers can opt for monthly usage plans starting at ₹1 per kilometre for the battery. This approach reduces the initial investment by up to 30 per cent, with the Ather Rizta starting at ₹75,999 and the 450 Series at ₹84,341 (ex-showroom, Lucknow).
The BaaS model offers several benefits. Firstly, it eliminates the need for a large upfront payment for the battery, making the scooters more affordable. Secondly, it adds flexibility in payments, as customers only pay for the battery based on usage. Lastly, it addresses a common concern in the EV market - resale value - with Ather's expanded Assured Buyback programme. Buyers are guaranteed up to 60% of the scooter's value after three years and up to 50% after four years, based on kilometres travelled.
The Extended Comprehensive Warranty (ECW) also covers the battery and 11 other essential components for up to five years or 60,000 km (whichever comes first). This warranty reduces potential maintenance costs for buyers.
Ather Energy operates India's largest two-wheeler fast-charging network, the Ather Grid, with over 4,000 chargers installed across India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Under the BaaS scheme, customers get free fast charging for one year at Ather's 3,300+ chargers nationwide.
With the BaaS model, Ather Energy aims to make the switch to electric mobility more attractive, affordable, and secure for Indian households. The company's efforts are further bolstered by the Extended Comprehensive Warranty, which is available for all AtherStack Pro customers. The warranty safeguards owners from unexpected repair costs and ensures a worry-free ownership experience.
