Audi's off-road sub-brand reaches new peaks with their innovative Q6 e-tron offroad concept car.

Audi has unveiled the Q6 e-tron offroad concept, a prototype that offers a tantalising glimpse into the German automaker's plans for an electric off-road vehicle. The Q6 e-tron offroad concept shares a svelte swooping roofline with the standard Q6, but boasts over 6 inches of additional ground clearance and nearly 10 inches of width. This beefed-up design is intended to excel in harsh conditions such as snow, ice, and motor shows. The concept vehicle is based on the Sportback version of Audi's mid-range e-SUV. It features huge flared wheelarches to accommodate special off-road tyres, and LED lights mounted on the bumper and roof rack for optimal visibility in harsh conditions. While the Q6 e-tron offroad concept does not feature the special 'portal' axles sported by the prototype, which raises ride height by offsetting the axle tube above the center of the wheel, it still boasts an impressive top speed of 108 mph for an off-roader. Its grip and torque enable it to venture up 45 degree gradients. Audi is aiming to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) sales by evoking the spirit of iconic models like the original 80s quattro. In the United Kingdom, 20% of Audi's sales were EVs last year, a number expected to increase in the future. Meanwhile, Volvo has also joined the electric off-road fray with the announcement of the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country. This ruggedized version of the company's smallest EV will be the first look at Swedish company's smallest electric vehicle with increased brawn. The development of the electrically powered off-road concept vehicle Q6 e-tron offroad was carried out by Audi's design and engineering teams. The concept is currently a prototype, created to conjure up a highly emotive version of the all-electric original. As Audi continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, the Q6 e-tron offroad concept is a clear signal of the company's commitment to delivering high-performance, off-road capable EVs that capture the essence of their iconic quattro models.
