AWS & Anthropic Team Up to Boost AI Power with Project Rainier

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Anthropic are joining forces to boost AI computing power. Project Rainier, a dedicated AWS data center, is set to launch in January 2026, housing an EC2 UltraCluster packed with hundreds of thousands of Trainium2 chips. This collaboration aims to provide more than five times the current compute power used for leading AI models.

The partnership has already borne fruit with Claude 3.5 Haiku. Powered by Trainium2, it offers faster inference speed at a competitive price of $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. The collaboration has expanded to optimize Claude models for AWS Trainium2 chips, with Project Rainier set to deliver enhanced computing power.

Amazon Bedrock Model Distillation has played a significant role. It enables Claude 3 Haiku to achieve significant performance gains without compromising speed or price. The faster Claude 3.5 Haiku and distilled Claude 3 Haiku are now available in preview in Amazon Bedrock. Model distillation, added to Amazon Bedrock, allows larger Claude models' intelligence to be packed into smaller, faster models.

Claude 3.5 Haiku now supports latency-optimized inference in Amazon Bedrock using AWS Trainium2 chips. In a recent price drop, Claude 3.5 Haiku is now available at $0.80 per million input tokens and $4 per million output tokens across all platforms. Distillation automates the knowledge transfer process from a 'teacher' model to a 'student' model for specific tasks.

With Project Rainier set to launch in 2026, AWS and Anthropic are poised to revolutionize AI computing power. The enhanced capabilities of Claude 3.5 Haiku, now available in Amazon Bedrock, offer users faster, more efficient AI services at competitive prices. Users can explore these new offerings by visiting the Amazon Bedrock console.
