BlackBerry Reorganizes Internet of Things (_IoT_) Department, Shifting Focus to QNX Software for Autonomous Vehicle Development (_SDV_)

In a strategic shift towards becoming a software-centric company, BlackBerry Limited has announced the rebranding of its IoT division to QNX. This move signifies a strong emphasis on embedded systems and software-defined vehicles, reflecting the company's commitment to QNX's automotive and industrial operating systems.

The heart of this transformation lies in QNX, BlackBerry's embedded OS platform widely used in automotive software. This platform supports advanced vehicle technologies and is expected to drive 10% revenue growth in fiscal 2025 to $250 million, with a strong backlog of royalty revenue ($865 million), emphasizing automotive and industrial growth.

BlackBerry is also focusing on the transformation towards vehicles increasingly reliant on software for functionality, safety, and connectivity. This aligns with the company's core embedded systems capabilities in QNX, making it a cornerstone of its future growth and market positioning.

In addition, BlackBerry is not neglecting the importance of cybersecurity. Beyond QNX, the company also focuses on cybersecurity through its SecuSmart segment, although this area faced some revenue declines after divesting Cylance, it remains part of its software and services expansion.

The rebranding of QNX is more than just a cosmetic change. It honours QNX's strong history while setting the stage for innovation, as stated by John J. Giamatteo, CEO of BlackBerry. Mattias Eriksson, President of QNX, further emphasized the division's readiness for the future, particularly in the realm of hybrid cloud and edge computing.

As part of this rebranding, QNX has unveiled a modernized logo, a new website, and the tagline, "It all starts here." This new visual identity reflects QNX's commitment to innovation and its role as a critical driver of the future of mobility.

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, QNX will debut its revamped identity and showcase its complete suite of automotive solutions at Booth #4224 in the West Hall. Visitors can also engage with QNX online, as the platform for audio innovation, QNX Sound, and other solutions can be explored on the QNX CES 2025 website.

QNX's robust software enables automakers and industrial leaders to unlock new revenue streams by supporting scalable, next-generation systems, a key aspect for the rapidly evolving automotive and embedded systems market. With the launch of its Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0, the most significant update in over a decade, QNX is poised to remain a critical driver of innovation and excellence in the future of mobility.
