BMW Group Reports Strong Q3 Sales, Mercedes-Benz Shows Recovery
BMW Group has reported a strong third quarter, with all its brands - BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce - witnessing significant sales increases. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz has shown signs of recovery in its high-end models and electric vehicle sales.
BMW's core brand saw a 6% rise, while Mini surged by about a third and Rolls-Royce by 13%. Overall, BMW delivered around 1.8 million vehicles to customers, a 2% increase year-on-year. However, electric vehicle sales dipped by 0.6% to 102,900 units, possibly due to customers anticipating the upcoming Neue Klasse models.
Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle sales held steady at around 42,600 units in the third quarter, offsetting earlier declines. Its high-end models saw a 10% increase, but van sales decreased by 8%. The company delivered around 1.6 million vehicles to dealers, a 9% decrease compared to last year.
Both BMW and Mercedes faced challenges in China, with BMW's sales dropping by 0.4% and Mercedes' by around 27%. However, BMW saw its first increase in a year and a half, following five consecutive declines. This turnaround is attributed to an exceptionally weak quarter last year, during which the company grappled with brake issues.
BMW Group's strong third quarter, marked by increases across all brands, signals a positive trend. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz's stable electric vehicle sales and high-end model growth indicate a recovery. Despite challenges in China, both companies remain competitive in the global automotive market.
