Boris FX designates Moritz Fortmann as the Manager for SynthEyes Product
Moritz Fortmann, with nearly two decades of industry expertise, has been appointed as the product manager for Boris FX SynthEyes. This move comes as SynthEyes aims to meet the ever-growing demands of artists working on Hollywood's most popular projects.
Fortmann's role is to drive SynthEyes forward, working alongside its creator Dr. Russ Andersson. His keen understanding of the Boris FX ecosystem and eagerness to enhance SynthEyes is seen as a valuable asset.
Boris Yamnitsky, CEO/Founder of Boris FX, is delighted to have Fortmann on board. "Moritz brings a wealth of experience from high-impact product roles at Foundry, MAXON, and Blackmagic Design," said Yamnitsky. "We're excited to see what he can do with SynthEyes."
SynthEyes, a 3D camera solve application, has benefited from Fortmann's experience. His expertise was instrumental in the expansion of SynthEyes' resources since joining the Boris FX family.
Fortmann, as the new product manager, is focused, knowledgeable, and kind. Dr. Andersson is elated to present him as a dedicated product champion. "I'm thrilled to be teaming up with Moritz to help further develop the 3D tracking and matchmove tools in SynthEyes," said Dr. Andersson.
In the 2025.5 release, SynthEyes introduces several significant new features and improved workflows under Fortmann's leadership.
ML Motion Estimation
A new AI-based automatic tracking mode using machine learning for dense, per-pixel motion vectors improves tracking accuracy on challenging shots. This reduces manual cleanup and delivers stable tracker predictions, making complex workflows simpler and more robust in professional VFX pipelines.
Flexible Lens Workflow Export
A non-destructive lens undistortion system allows undistorting or redistorting imagery only at export time, preserving solves and providing predictable, reversible, and customizable treatment of lens distortion for better compatibility across applications. This makes the lens workflow much more reliable and user-friendly.
Mesh-to-Tracker Parenting
The option to directly parent 3D meshes to individual trackers with a simple click in the viewport keeps geometry properly attached as the solve evolves. This preserves hierarchies and allows pivot/offset adjustments without breaking relationships, significantly speeding up layout and iteration.
Improved Automation and Exports
The release focuses on automated workflows to streamline setup and ensure reliable exports across pipelines, reducing user headaches and supporting complex shot types including stereoscopic and 360 VR.
Moritz Fortmann emphasizes that these features aim to save artists time, increase accuracy, and make complex workflows simpler and more robust in professional VFX pipelines. With Fortmann at the helm, SynthEyes continues to push the boundaries of 3D tracking and matchmove technology.
