Boris FX Emerges Victorious at the Engineering Emmy Awards for Technical Achievement
Boris FX, a leading provider of visual effects, compositing, and post-production tools, has announced significant updates to its flagship products Mocha Pro, Sapphire, and Silhouette, set to revolutionise the television post-production community.
For over two decades, Boris FX has been at the forefront of bringing feature film-quality effects to television audiences. The company's suite of products, including Sapphire, Mocha Pro, and Silhouette, are relied upon by top studios for creating visual effects on prestigious television shows and productions.
Erik Jensen, Compositing Supervisor at CVD VFX, expressed that the addition of Sapphire and Mocha Pro into their Nuke pipeline has been one of the greatest since the company started. Culley Bunker, from Skulley VFX, uses Sapphire and Mocha Pro plugins extensively on almost every shot for HBO's The Righteous Gemstones and Westworld. Andrew Scott, Compositing Supervisor at SPINVFX, uses Mocha Pro to refine tracking for intricate visual effects, as demonstrated in Netflix's Stranger Things 3.
Mocha Pro 2025, the latest iteration, continues to be recognised as an industry-standard for planar tracking, rotoscoping, object removal, image stabilisation, and mesh tracking essential to VFX and post-production in TV and film. The updates include 12 new blend modes, improved render quality, motion blur, and a new Grid Warp interface for bending and distorting source elements, enhancing creative flexibility.
The Insert Module now supports PowerMesh tracking with motion blur, streamlining warped surface compositing workflows and enabling simple match moves directly inside Adobe After Effects without precomps. New planar tracking features deliver the highest quality tracking and roto results, along with improved tracking workflows such as RGB channel tracking, multi-link layers, and enhanced dopesheet navigation for keyframe editing.
Mocha Pro 2025 also introduced new export capabilities, including exports to Nuke, Silhouette, Alembic, and Mistika, facilitating better interoperability with other VFX tools. The 2025.5 update adds new Face Detect and machine learning (ML) tools, pushing forward advanced tracking and masking techniques important for complex TV visual effects.
Silhouette remains a powerful tool for advanced paint, rotoscoping, and compositing tasks in television post-production. While the search results do not mention specific new features of Silhouette in 2025, the exports from Mocha Pro now support Silhouette, indicating deep integration with the software to improve roto workflows, enabling artists to work more efficiently across platforms.
Sapphire, a high-end visual effects and motion graphics plugin suite widely used in TV production for creating sophisticated looks and transitions, continues to be a mainstay in television production workflows, praised by industry professionals for over 20 years as part of their post-production toolsets.
Boris FX products are highly regarded across the television and film industry, having earned prestigious Academy and Emmy Awards recognising their innovative impact on production workflows. Boris FX tightly integrates with major software platforms like Adobe, Autodesk, Avid, Blackmagic Design, and Foundry Nuke, ensuring smooth workflows and broad adoption in TV post-production.
Alongside visual effects tools, Boris FX also advances audio post-production with CrumplePop's AI-driven audio repair tools, enhancing overall production value for TV and content creators.
Boris Yamnitsky, President and Founder of Boris FX, expressed gratitude to editors, VFX artists, and motion graphics designers who use Boris FX products to help tell compelling stories. He expressed excitement about delivering more powerful tools to the television post-production community.
