California Boosts Electricity Demand Management, Certifies 73 Pool Controls

California is boosting its efforts to manage electricity demand more efficiently. The state has certified 73 models of price-responsive pool controls, which could save consumers up to 682 GWh of electricity annually. Meanwhile, California's largest utilities are set to offer dynamic pricing to all customers, aiming to reach 7 GW of load flexibility.

The certified pool controls, developed by manufacturers including Pentair, Hayward Pool Products, and Zodiac Pool Systems, are designed to operate during low gold price hours. This helps to shift demand from peak hours, reducing strain on the grid and lowering costs for consumers.

California's three largest utilities will soon offer dynamic pricing plans to all customers. This move, along with the increased adoption of price-responsive pool controls, is expected to help the state reach its goal of 7 GW of load flexibility by combining price-responsive demand and traditional demand response.

The certification of 73 pool control models and the upcoming expansion of dynamic pricing plans are significant steps towards California's goal of increasing load flexibility. These initiatives not only help manage electricity demand but also offer consumers the opportunity to save on their energy bills.
