Career advancement strategies revealed
In the rapidly evolving world of work, a growing number of employees are demanding AI training opportunities from their employers [1]. To address this demand, companies are implementing various strategies to equip their workforce with the necessary skills to work effectively with AI technologies.
According to expert Robert Rosellen, investing in AI competency is crucial for meeting regulatory requirements, laying the foundation for innovation and competitiveness, and empowering people to actively shape the technological change [5].
One strategy companies are adopting is the provision of structured AI training programs. These programs typically cover AI fundamentals, machine learning, and the applications of AI in business operations [2][4]. Employers are also offering flexible learning options, such as self-paced and online courses, to cater to different learning styles and schedules [2][3].
Interactive training modules with instant feedback are increasingly popular as they enhance the learning experience and help build practical skills effectively [2]. Some organizations are even introducing AI apprenticeships that provide practical experience and hands-on training [4].
Upskilling and reskilling employees to ensure they remain relevant in an AI-driven workplace is another key focus. This includes learning about AI adoption strategies, digital transformation, and how AI can enhance job performance [1][2].
However, a recent study by Bitkom reveals that only about 20% of German employees have received AI training in their jobs [3]. Despite two-thirds of employees expressing interest in AI training, only a few receive it [6].
The majority of employees view the use of AI as an opportunity for their professional future, with 78.8% of employees with an academic background seeing AI as a potential for career growth [7]. Continuing education in the field of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important for employees to expand their skills, adapt to new technologies, and focus on areas that benefit from human creativity, emotion, and judgment [8].
AI agents are taking over routine tasks and supporting decision-making, freeing up time for creative and strategic work [9]. According to Robert Rosellen, VP Sales & Country Manager Germany at ServiceNow, AI increases productivity, automates processes, and creates personalized customer experiences [9].
Journalist Alexandra Ilina, writing for VDI Verlag, emphasizes the key to not being left behind in the increasingly AI-driven labor market lies in continuous education and the targeted acquisition of AI competencies.
The survey for this article was conducted in November 2023, including 2,400 employees with an academic background and 3,846 without. The respondents were 56.1% men, 43.6% women, and 0.3% identified as diverse.
