CEVA Logistics Launches European EV Battery Reverse Logistics Service

CEVA Logistics has launched a comprehensive reverse logistics service for end-of-life electric vehicle batteries across Europe. The service aims to handle up to 80% of European battery volumes by 2030, as the demand for recycling and safe disposal of decommissioned batteries grows. The company's strategy relies on reusing existing real estate and vehicle assets, making its model more scalable.

CEVA will establish Battery Logistics Centers in multiple European countries, with the first facilities planned in France, the UK, and Spain by the end of 2023. These centers will include secure, climate-controlled storage, diagnostic and dismantling workshops, and systems for traceability of each battery. The shift towards reverse logistics for EV batteries introduces new infrastructure demands, such as fire containment and 24-hour monitoring in warehouses.

CEVA's approach includes pan-European battery collection and transport, value-added services within logistics centers, and real-time battery tracking for regulatory compliance. The volume of decommissioned batteries is expected to rise sharply, with some estimates projecting more than eight million units reaching end-of-life within five years. Several logistics and recycling players, including DHL, Rhenus, and DB Schenker, are entering the EV battery ecosystem due to commercial opportunity and regulatory momentum. Besides CEVA Logistics, DHL and LogBATT are active in the EV battery logistics and recycling ecosystem.

CEVA Logistics' new service addresses the growing demand for safe and efficient recycling of end-of-life electric vehicle batteries. With plans to establish Battery Logistics Centers across Europe and handle a significant portion of European battery volumes by 2030, the company is well-positioned to become a key player in the EV battery ecosystem. The service introduces new infrastructure demands and relies on real-time tracking for regulatory compliance, demonstrating the importance of reverse logistics in modern transport ecosystems.
