Chinese Economist Calls for India-China Cooperation to Boost Asia's Growth
Chong En Bai, a prominent Chinese economist, has underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation between India and China for Asia's economic growth. Speaking at the Kautilya Economic Conclave, Bai stressed the need for stronger ties to tackle climate change and boost regional trade.
Bai, Director of the National Institute for Fiscal Studies at Tsinghua University, highlighted the role of electric vehicles in combating climate change and improving air quality in Asian economies. He also emphasized the need to reduce trade barriers and encourage cross-border investment between India and China to increase trade and investment.
Bai was critical of US trade policies towards developing economies, including India and China. He noted that Asia, particularly these two nations, has significantly contributed to global economic growth and has the potential for faster growth. Bai advocated for respecting the right of developing economies to develop their economies without undue external pressure.
Bai's remarks underscore the growing recognition of the importance of India-China cooperation for Asia's economic growth and global influence. With both nations committed to addressing climate change and boosting trade, the stage is set for enhanced collaboration, benefiting the region and the world.
