Chrome undergoes an upgrade with Gemini AI integration: Here's what's changed

Google has announced a series of new features for its Chrome browser, integrating its AI technology, Gemini, to better anticipate user needs, help understand complex information, and increase productivity while browsing the web.

The upgraded AI Mode in Chrome now offers AI-generated overviews of any webpage, providing users with quick summaries of the content they are viewing. This feature can be accessed via the Omnibox, allowing users to ask context-aware questions about the news they are reading.

Gemini AI in Chrome can handle multi-step tasks directly within the browser. For instance, it can pull a grocery list from an email and add the items to Instacart, streamlining tasks and saving users valuable time.

In addition to these enhancements, the new features include AI-powered page summaries, task automation, and improved integration with Google services such as Calendar, Maps, and YouTube. With these integrations, users can schedule appointments, look up locations, watch video summaries, and recall previously visited web pages, all within the Chrome browser.

Google has made these new features available to all Mac and Windows users in the United States, without the need for a Google One subscription. Android users in the U.S. can already activate Gemini in Chrome and other apps by holding the power button, while iOS integration is coming soon.

It's important to note that Gemini AI in Chrome runs in the background but will stop short of executing high-risk actions like purchases or sending emails until the user approves. To access these features, users must sign in to their Google account.

Contextual prompts are live now, with Omnibox integration rolling out in the U.S. later this month. The new Google Chrome features powered by Gemini AI will initially be available to Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S. with their language set to English, before becoming available on iOS.

The chatbot, which is already available on Android, is set to launch on iOS soon, further expanding the reach of these innovative new features. With these improvements, Google is aiming to revolutionize the browsing experience, making it more productive, efficient, and user-friendly.
