Close Call at Nice Airport: Nouvelair A320 Overflies EasyJet Jet
A close call occurred at Nice airport on Sunday night when an Nouvelair A320 passed just feet above an easyJet A320 on the runway. The French BEA has launched an investigation into the serious incident.
The Nouvelair flight BJ586, descending from Tunis, overflew the stationary easyJet flight U24706 at an altitude of 50 feet, plus or minus 25 feet, around 21:32 UTC. Nouvelair performed a go-around and landed safely, while the easyJet flight returned to the gate and was subsequently canceled. The BEA confirmed that Nouvelair was cleared to land on runway 04L, but the names of the involved personnel remain undisclosed.
The near-miss incident at Nice airport has raised concerns, prompting the French BEA to classify it as serious and initiate an investigation. The safety of both flights was ultimately ensured, but the incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of air traffic control and pilot communication.
