Collaboration Between Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace of India to Accelerate Space Expeditions
Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace Join Forces to Shape Future Space Exploration
Axiom Space, a leading American company in low-Earth orbit (LEO) initiatives, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Skyroot Aerospace, India's pioneering private space launch service provider. This collaboration aims to transform access to space, reinforcing the growing cooperation between Axiom Space and the Indian space sector.
Skyroot Aerospace, the first private company in South Asia to launch a rocket to space, is preparing for a significant milestone. The company is currently gearing up to launch the Vikram-1 rocket, its maiden orbital-class space launch vehicle, expected in late 2025. This commercial space launch is part of India's growing private space sector efforts, following Skyroot's successful suborbital launch of Vikram-S in 2022.
Pawan Kumar Chandana, co-founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, emphasizes the company's mission to make space access affordable, reliable, and on-demand, with a focus on equitable access for research institutes, startups, and national agencies.
The partnership between Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace is not only about space launch services. Axiom Space is considering utilizing Skyroot's capabilities for groundbreaking research payloads and orbital data center nodes. This collaboration could pave the way for Axiom Space missions to Axiom Station and independently in LEO.
Michael Suffredini, CEO of Axiom Space, expressed his excitement about the potential collaboration, citing a visit to Skyroot's facility two years ago as a catalyst for the partnership. He stated that this collaboration reinforces Axiom Space's commitment to redefining the pathway to LEO and fueling a vibrant space economy for the benefit of every human, everywhere.
The historic Ax-4 mission, which marked India's return to human spaceflight and the nation's first mission on board the International Space Station, underscores the potential of this collaboration. Axiom Space is laying the foundation for the construction and operation of Axiom Station, positioning itself as a leader in LEO.
This partnership between Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace is aimed at exploring integrated launch and orbital solutions. The collaboration also looks forward to serving the growing space ecosystem in India and globally, with a shared vision to shape humanity's future in space.
