Collaborative endeavor between Bitsensing, KAIST AVE Lab, and ZETA Mobility for the commercialization of AI-driven 4D imaging radar technology

A groundbreaking collaboration has been formed between Bitsensing, KAIST AVE Lab, and ZETA Mobility to develop and commercialize AI-powered 4D imaging radar technology for autonomous vehicles. The partnership, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), combines the strengths of each party to enhance the real-time performance of radar systems for autonomous driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Advancements in 4D Imaging Radar Technology

4D imaging radar technology sets itself apart from conventional radar by capturing an additional dimension—elevation (z-axis)—along with distance, velocity, and direction. This feature allows for highly accurate detection and classification of vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure in complex environments. The technology is robust under adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, and fog, ensuring consistent and reliable performance that is crucial for autonomous vehicle safety.

Collaborative Goals

The collaboration aims to maximize the sensing accuracy and classification reliability of the radar system, implement AI-based embedded solutions in vehicle systems to operate in real time, and conduct joint R&D, performance validation, and field testing to accelerate commercialization.

Combining Expertise for a Brighter Future

This partnership leverages complementary expertise: Bitsensing on radar hardware, KAIST AVE Lab on signal processing and AI algorithm research, and ZETA Mobility on data and embedded AI. The collaboration will focus on solving technological challenges and developing world-class solutions for autonomous driving technologies.

Jae-Eun Lee, CEO of Bitsensing, states that the collaboration is a major step forward in bringing next-generation radar solutions to market. Hyunseok Lee, CEO of ZETA Mobility, expresses that the partnership is meaningful and will allow ZETA Mobility to contribute significantly to advancing and commercializing autonomous driving technologies.

Professor Seung-Hyun Kong of the AVE Lab at KAIST emphasizes the significance of the agreement as it brings together institutions with core technologies essential for developing artificial intelligence for 4D radar.

The Road Ahead

Through this collaboration, the partners expect to significantly improve the recognition and classification accuracy of vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure on the road. The partnership will aim to address the demand for high precision and all-weather reliability in autonomous driving with the development of 4D imaging radar technology.

The collaboration will pursue phased cooperation, including joint R&D, performance validation, field testing, and technical advancement, to drive real-world adoption of AI-based 4D imaging radar in the automotive industry. By combining their unique expertise, Bitsensing, KAIST AVE Lab, and ZETA Mobility will lead the world in developing and commercializing advanced AI-embedded 4D radar systems.
