Trump and Musk's Tumultuous Relationship:

Democrats and Trump's critics were gearing up for a spectacle as Republicans called for reconciliation, but it seems it's already too late - the news stream couldn't be stopped. According to The Washington Post, Trump is planning to ditch his red "Tesla," which he bought earlier this year in support of Elon Musk's company. In retaliation, Musk might halt his financial support for Trump's political campaigns, with midterm elections looming.

The rift didn't come out of nowhere. The cause was Trump's displeasure with Musk over the removal of subsidies for electric vehicles from a key budget bill. Additionally, Tesla heavily relies on components from China, while Trump stands on protectionist principles and is keen on an economic war with China. It's possible he scrapped federal credits from his One Big Beautiful Bill not just by chance: in recent times, Elon Musk has been acting quite nervously and, to put it mildly, asking for more power than he should. In the end, Musk decided to leave his position as the head of the Department of Efficiency in the U.S. government (DOGE) at the end of May.

On one side, a clear conflict of interest is apparent: as a successful businessman and main sponsor of Trump's campaign, Musk barged too harshly onto the political stage. Even after Musk's departure from DOGE, Trump wrote that they still had excellent relations and that the entrepreneur would continue to be welcome at the White House. However, things seemed to have taken a turn for the worse, potentially due to their complex personalities – the president of the United States, a champion of conservative revolution, and the head of one of the most high-tech companies in the world, a representative of tech oligarchs. Their battle, as it was said, was almost evenly matched.

And Musk, and Trump – both are eccentric and emotional individuals, each believing themselves a king of the party, so a symbiosis, as many believed, couldn't last forever. In the end, emotions took over: Musk started accusing Trump of ties to Jeffrey Epstein, a famous sex scandal known as the "Pedophile Island" scandal. Trump, in response, tried to maintain composure but after Musk's posts about Trump needing to be removed from his position, stated that Musk has lost his mind and accused him of drug use.

The future of access to the International Space Station is also up in the air: as we all know, Musk is not only Tesla, but also SpaceX's spacecraft Dragon. On emotions, Musk declared his readiness to pull the spacecrafts out of service, and Trump, if things get too far, can easily annul them, replacing them with products from another company, like Boeing. In the worst-case scenario, the U.S. space industry could suffer a serious blow, as could plans for the "Golden Dome." In the end, Trump could lose his biggest supporter with substantial financial and information resources for political lobbying. Musk, in turn, may be forced to optimize his own business or move to another country – if things get really bad, conversations about it are already happening in the American establishment, with former Trump advisor Steve Bannon even calling for Musk's deportation as an illegal alien.

It's more likely that Trump and Musk will make amends: apart from their emotional natures, both are characterized by pragmatism. However, Democrats and Trump's critics can certainly exploit the public feud as an opportunity to increase pressure on Republicans and, without a doubt, will put all their efforts into making the results of the upcoming midterm elections as unfavorable as possible for the U.S. president.

Insights:- Elon Musk's criticism of the Republican tax bill stems from its impact on Tesla, as it eliminates provisions dealing with electric vehicle subsidies, which could affect Tesla's business by reducing incentives for customers to purchase electric vehicles.- A strained relationship between Trump and Musk could complicate regulatory approvals or public perception for Tesla, SpaceX, or Neuralink, potentially affecting these businesses indirectly.- If the conflict continues, Musk's support for a post suggesting Trump should be impeached may align him more explicitly with Democrats, while their feud could also strengthen Trump's base among Republicans who view Musk's criticism as an attack on their party's policies.- Musk's departure from his position as the head of the Department of Efficiency in the U.S. government (DOGE) and Trump's uncertainty about their future relationship could signal a turning point in their friendship.

  1. The ongoing tension between Elon Musk and President Trump has extended to the spheres of science, space-and-astronomy, technology, and politics, as Musk's readiness to withdraw SpaceX's spacecraft from operational use could significantly impact the future of U.S. space exploration.
  2. While the future of Trump and Musk's relationship remains unpredictable, their public dispute has potentially far-reaching consequences, not only for the general news landscape but also for their respective businesses, as Musk's alignment with Democratic viewpoints in the context of impeachment demands and Trump's response may affect their political support bases.
