Corporation True announces advanced 5G service with DSS technology, leading the way in Thonglor's updates
True Corporation Enhances 5G Service in High-Density Area with Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) Technology
True Corporation, a leading telecommunications provider in Thailand, has implemented Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology to improve the 5G experience in densely populated areas like Thonglor, Bangkok. This innovative technology enables real-time, flexible allocation of the 2600 MHz spectrum band between 5G and 4G users based on actual demand.
Thonglor, known for its vibrant lifestyle and popularity among young professionals, businesspeople, and expatriates, was selected as the first location for full-performance 5G service with DSS technology due to its high-potential status as a neighborhood in Bangkok. The on-site inspection in Thonglor was conducted by Mr. Sigve Brekke, Group CEO of True Corporation Public Company Limited, to test and monitor the use of 5G with DSS technology.
DSS technology replaces traditional fixed spectrum blocks reserved separately for 4G and 5G, which often limit 5G performance if part of the band is unused or over-allocated to 4G. Instead, DSS’s intelligent, automatic adjustments maximize the spectrum’s utility by adapting instantly to changing user needs in crowded environments like Thonglor. This leads to improved network speed, stability, and coverage for 5G users, supporting a seamless experience even amid heavy traffic.
The network upgrade is part of True Corporation's Network Modernization plan to support over 14.2 million 5G subscribers nationwide. True Corporation has acquired 70 MHz of the 2300 MHz spectrum to enhance its spectrum portfolio, allowing for 4G services on the 2300 MHz mid-band spectrum while preserving the 2600 MHz band for 5G. The DSS implementation is part of a nationwide expansion aimed at delivering optimal service delivery for both 5G and 4G on the 2600 MHz band.
When 5G user density is high, DSS can allocate the entire band to 5G for better speed and capacity; when 4G demand rises, it dynamically rebalances to maintain service quality for both technologies. This ensures optimal spectrum efficiency and enhances network performance where many users coexist.
TrueMove H, the mobile network operator under True Corporation, is set to benefit from the DSS technology, which is used for enhancing the 5G experience to full performance. The initial service boost of DSS technology is in Thonglor, Bangkok, and True Corporation plans to expand the development of high-performance 5G and 4G upgrades to targeted areas across the country.
In summary, DSS technology enables operators such as True Corporation to efficiently leverage their existing 2600 MHz spectrum to deliver superior 5G service quality in dense urban areas by dynamically balancing available bandwidth between 5G and 4G in real time. This innovation promises to revolutionise the telecommunications landscape in Thailand, providing superior network performance for both 5G and 4G users.
