The latest issue of 'c't' magazine, number 21/25, tests network cameras from various manufacturers, ranging from 100 to 650 euros. These cameras, including models from Arlo, D-Link, DCS, FRITZ!, Giga, Logitech, Netatmo, Reolink, TP-Link, and Yi, offer high-end features like multiple lenses and pan motors at higher prices.

While network cameras provide security, they should be supplemented with other measures like burglar-resistant facade elements and self-monitoring. The trend is shifting towards local storage options, such as memory cards or NAS, instead of cloud storage for recordings.

For legally secure identification, full HD resolution is recommended, providing around 250 pixels per meter. Outdoor cameras should have at least IP65 certification to withstand splash water. Local storage benefits privacy and avoids monthly fees associated with online storage. Some models even come with solar panels for operation without a power supply.

Cameras offering usable image quality can be found from as low as 100 euros. Integrating these with burglar alarm systems can further enhance home security. However, colored night images, while helpful in recognizing distinctive clothing, may also reveal the camera's location.
