Upgraded Sound System at the Francis Winspear Centre Enhances Concert Experience
The Francis Winspear Centre for Music in Edmonton, Alberta, has recently undergone a significant upgrade to its sound system, featuring L-Acoustics loudspeakers. The renovation was necessitated by the introduction of a new L-Acoustics loudspeaker line.
The new sound system, installed over a two-week period, includes a variety of components carefully chosen for their improved sonic quality, SPL capability, and smooth, even coverage throughout the entire room.
The Sound Booth, for instance, boasts three L-Acoustics X8 loudspeakers and one L-Acoustics SB10i subwoofer. The Main Chamber sound system is equally impressive, with eight L-Acoustics KS21 Cardioid Sub Arrays.
For low SPL front fill, eleven L-Acoustics X4i loudspeakers (custom RAL color) have been installed on the stage. The system also includes 14 L-Acoustics 5XT loudspeakers for under balcony fills, two L-Acoustics X8 loudspeakers for dress circle loge fill, and six for high SPL front fill.
Console Monitoring consists of two L-Acoustics 5XT loudspeakers and one L-Acoustics SB10i subwoofer. The Lobby, meanwhile, is equipped with six L-Acoustics SOKA loudspeakers and six L-Acoustics SB10i subwoofers.
Two L-Acoustics Arrays of two A10 Focus loudspeakers are for Choir Loft Stage Monitors, and the Projection/Mother's Room includes three L-Acoustics X8 loudspeakers and one L-Acoustics SB10i subwoofer.
The installation of the centre array is scheduled for July 2024. The L/R arrays installation took place from November 2023 to January 2024.
The first show after commissioning was an Edmonton Symphony Concert, a Tribute to the Music of Joni Mitchell, and the response was positive. The centre continues to host various events, providing audiences with an enhanced audio experience, thanks to the new L-Acoustics sound system.
