Depop Unveils 'Outfits' Feature to Boost Fashion Inspiration and Engagement
Depop, the social marketplace acquired by Etsy for $1.6 billion in 2021, has unveiled 'Outfits', a new in-app feature designed to make the platform a daily destination for fashion inspiration. The company aims to enhance its social features, with Peter Semple, who took over as permanent CEO in July 2023, leading the initiative.
Outfits allows users to create and style outfits using items from Depop's marketplace. Similar to Pinterest's Shuffles and collage features, users can save their creations, share them on Instagram or Pinterest, and expect more features in the coming months.
The new tool enables users to create outfit collages, adjust item sizes, customize backgrounds, and even find similar sold-out items. Depop's 2022 introduction of generative AI and image recognition technology has facilitated this functionality, generating product descriptions and aiding in item identification.
With the launch of Outfits, Depop seeks to boost user engagement and solidify its position as a go-to platform for fashion inspiration. The feature's success will be closely watched, as it could pave the way for further social and creative tools on the platform.
