Digital Realty chosen as access point for LINX's new Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Ghana
The London Internet Exchange (LINX), in partnership with Digital Realty, is set to launch LINX Accra, Ghana's newest internet exchange point (IXP), in early 2025. The official launch event is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025.
LINX Accra's development is a significant step forward in enhancing Ghana's digital ecosystem. The exchange, planned to go live initially in Q1 2025, will be a fully redundant, interconnected, multi-site fabric, designed to support and future-proof Ghana's digital services and connectivity.
The partnership between LINX and Digital Realty, a key player in enabling regional connectivity and global integration with operations across Africa, is a strategic move to strengthen interconnection across the continent. Digital Realty's state-of-the-art ACR2 data center in Accra, strategically located near several submarine landing cable stations, will serve as a crucial access point for LINX Accra.
Joseph Koranteng, Managing Director of Digital Realty in Ghana, has expressed his pleasure about welcoming LINX to their new data center in Ghana. Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX, has also expressed excitement about the new partnership in Ghana.
LINX Accra's launch will mark LINX's third IXP in Africa, following the successful establishment of LINX Nairobi in 2023 and LINX Mombasa in February of this year, both in partnership with iColo: A Digital Realty Company.
The launch of LINX Accra reflects LINX's broader strategy to enhance internet connectivity across Africa. The new IXP is expected to leverage six subsea cable systems and improved data centre infrastructure to offer low-latency, scalable peering services, thereby improving internet performance and resilience in the region.
Recent reports confirm that LINX Accra is expected to go live "in the coming weeks," making Ghana a major African digital hub. The launch event on July 3, 2025, will be an important milestone for the region's internet infrastructure, further solidifying Ghana's position as a key player in digital connectivity across Africa.
