Disneyland Abu Dhabi: Yas Island's Most Advanced Resort Coming 2030
Abu Dhabi is set to welcome its most advanced and interactive destination yet, with Disney's seventh resort, Disneyland Abu Dhabi, planned for Yas Island. The project, not owned or operated by Disney, will be built and run by Miral, the Middle East's leading theme park operator.
The resort, confirmed to be located on the beach in the north of Yas Island, is expected to start construction next year and open around 2030. Property prices on Yas Island have already seen a 20% increase over the past year due to the announced project, with demand surging immediately after the initial announcement.
To accommodate the influx of visitors, Abu Dhabi's government is developing Tram Line 4. This line will connect Yas Island, residential areas of Al Raha district, and Zayed International Airport, directly benefiting Disneyland Abu Dhabi visitors. The tram network is expected to connect to the upcoming Etihad Rail hubs, enabling travelers to get from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in just 30 minutes by 2030. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Airports is working on improving public transport connections, including a PRT system for VIP customers and an automated peoplemover for future expansion.
Miral, the developer of Yas Island, had previously explored implementing a skyTran network of sleek pods suspended from rails. However, these plans were abandoned after skyTran's majority shareholder withdrew funding in 2023. Instead, Tram Line 4 will carry up to 600 passengers per tram and be complemented by Urban Loop Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) self-driving pods, enabling door-to-door transport and connecting neighborhoods with offices, cultural sites, and attractions.
Disneyland Abu Dhabi, set to be the most advanced and interactive destination in Disney's portfolio, is expected to significantly boost Yas Island's appeal and visitor numbers. With robust public transport plans in place, the resort is poised to open around 2030, further cementing Abu Dhabi's position as a premier tourist destination.
