Drone Sightings Close Munich Airport, Disrupt Oktoberfest
Several European airports, including Munich, have temporarily closed due to unidentified drone sightings. This disruption occurred during the annual Oktoberfest festival, which attracts over six million people and is scheduled to end on 5 October.
On Thursday night, Munich airport was forced to close temporarily, leading to the cancellation of over a dozen flights and the diversion of 15 more to nearby cities such as Stuttgart, Vienna, Frankfurt, and Nuremberg. The airspace was closed for two hours ahead of the usual midnight to 05:00 curfew. Thousands of passengers were stranded overnight at Munich airport due to these drone sightings. Aviation management provided camp beds, blankets, and snacks to the stranded passengers. As of now, the exact source of the drone sightings remains unknown, with investigations ongoing.
The drone sightings at Munich airport have caused significant disruption, affecting both passengers and the ongoing Oktoberfest celebrations. While the origin of the drones is still under investigation, such incidents highlight the need for robust measures to ensure air safety and prevent similar disruptions in the future.
