Dune: Awakening Initially Without Public Servers, Offering Private Realms with Tax Evasion and Open Player versus Player Combat Options at Launch.

Title: Dive into the Private World of Dune: Awakening's Server Customization

Prepare for a sneak peek at Dune: Awakening's private server landscape, available in three days for early birds! Funcom announced today that starting from June 5th, rentable private servers will be accessible in Dune: Awakening!

important to keep in mind that unlike in survival games such as Ark, the customization options for your private server will be somewhat limited. There's no tweaking XP multipliers or adjusting item durability. However, one feature of interest is the ability to enable free-for-all PvP on your server [1][2].

Each server in Dune: Awakening is part of a "world" that contains other servers and shares common areas like trading posts, settlements, and the endgame "deep desert" zone. This setup allows for a neighborhood-like feel in the Hagga Basin, fostering persistent, freeform building, and other mechanics usually found in survival games [1][2].

Funcom explains, "We combine this with the large-scale multiplayer mechanics you would expect to find in MMOs where hundreds of players meet each other in social hubs and the Deep Desert to engage in social activities, trade, conflict, and more."

Rather than confine private servers to isolation, "each private server in Dune: Awakening also belongs to a World consisting of several other private servers rented by other players," Funcom shares. Each server supports "40+ players" and a single world can accommodate "several hundred concurrent players." All these players share the same social hubs and a massive, ever-changing Deep Desert where they'll encounter each other for exploration and conflict over spice [1][2].

Privately owned servers will not mix with official server players at all, but only with other private server players in the same world. This setup is designed to prevent private server players from gaining a significant advantage when interacting with other private server players within the world. The available customization options are thus limited to a few features like PvP, taxes, and sandstorms [1][2].

Funcom has highlighted the following customizable features for private servers:- Security Zones: Disable security zones completely, turning the entire Hagga Basin into a PvP zone or choose to have PvP pockets like on official servers.- Taxation: Disable taxation on your server.- Sandstorms: Disable sandstorms on your server.

Though sandstorms aren't a major concern in the early game—you merely need to take cover for about 30 seconds during their passing—the idea of not paying "Dune taxes to the Emperor" sounds enticing [1][2].

Renting a private server in Dune: Awakening is available through Gportal, Nitrado, and xRealm. Pricing and player slots vary across all three services [1][2].
