E.ON & BMW Launch First Commercial V2G Solution for Private Customers

E.ON and BMW have made history by launching the first commercial Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solution for private customers in Germany. Unveiled at the IAA in Munich, this innovative offer allows BMW iX3 owners to participate in grid stabilisation and earn money while charging their vehicles.

The BMW iX3, priced from 68,900 euros, comes with the 'BMW Wallbox Professional' for 2,099 euros. Leasing options are also available. Customers can earn a bonus of 24 cents per hour for keeping their iX3 connected to the wallbox, capped at 60 euros per month. This innovative system, available nationwide without special technical adaptations, enables customers to save up to 2,184 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, equivalent to driving 14,000 kilometres without extra costs.

The V2G tariff, operated by E.ON in collaboration with BMW, allows bidirectional charging and discharging of the iX3's high-voltage battery. Customers retain full control over their charging process, with an intelligent protection function ensuring no impact on battery lifespan. The vehicle, wallbox, and tariff are available for order now, with the tariff set to commence in January 2026.

This groundbreaking offer marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and customer-centric energy future. By integrating electric vehicles into the power grid, BMW iX3 owners can now earn money while charging, contributing to grid stability and reducing their own energy costs.
