Go Green, Keep the Tradition: Skoda Superb iV - A Part-Time Electric Ride with a Twist
Electrically-powered Skoda Superb iV offers flexible electricity usage during partial driving.
More Info Facebook Twitter Whatsapp Email Print Copy Link The Czech-made Skoda Superb is back, but this time with an improved plug-in hybrid drive system. The latest model offers an electric range of over 100 kilometers thanks to a larger battery. This cleaner and more efficient car is meant to attract both company drivers and commuters.
Step back to the past, and you'll find the Skoda Superb’s origin in 1934. After a tumultuous history, the model was revived in 1999 by Volkswagen. We're now witnessing the sixth generation of this iconic vehicle, a fusion of Czech heritage and German technology.
A New Step into Skoda's Electrified Future
The new Superb is the vanguard of Skoda's electrified future. While we've seen successful fully electric vehicles from the Czech Republic, such as the Enyaq, the eagerly anticipated SUV models remain in the pipeline. The Superb isn't a "true" electric car, but it relies on a clever combination of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an 85-kW electric motor.
More Space and Modern Features
Together, the duo delivers a total output of 150 kW (204 PS). The new battery offers 27.5 kWh, more than double that of its predecessor. This will allow the car to travel more than 100 kilometers on electric power alone, making it a viable choice for green commuters.
Cooperation with Volkswagen during development resulted in significant savings and the incorporation of the latest technology. Additionally, the new Superb offers improved space, a defining characteristic of previous models. The vehicle now measures 4.90 meters (4 cm longer than its predecessor), with a wheelbase of 2.85 meters. This redesign will catch the attention of vehicle combination fans in the VW community.
New Design, Advancements in Technology and Safety
The increased length lends an air of elegance to the new Superb. Distinctly Skoda, the car boasts slimmer main headlights and rear lights. The exterior is further enhanced with Crystallinium, a colored crystalline element that adds a three-dimensional effect to the LED Matrix Headlights.
Expanding on the range of assistance systems, the Superb's technology now reaches premium levels. Curve and intersection assistants are among the new additions, while a front radar ensures proactive cyclist protection. Up to ten airbags are on board, including a central airbag.
The gear lever of previous models has been replaced by a control unit on the right side of the steering wheel, creating more space in the front. The central display has grown to 13 inches, offering essential data.
In operation, the car remains driver-friendly, with electric and gasoline engines working in harmony. Though the driver can force the system to always drive electrically or maintain charging status with the help of the combustion engine, the interplay between the two engines runs quietly in the background.
In summary, the Skoda Superb iV blends traditional Skoda practicality with modern electrified performance and advanced technology. A spacious, clean interior, modern design, and a wide range of assistance systems make this car a strong contender in the premium executive segment. If you're willing to charge it, the new Superb could be your perfect daily driver, living up to the French meaning of its name: "magnificent."
