Electronic groupsets with 13 speeds make their debut, replacing traditional hydraulics in the Rotor product line
Rotor, the Spanish cycling components manufacturer, has announced the relaunch of its Uno groupset platform, now offering electronic, wireless groupsets for both gravel and mountain bike enthusiasts. The Uno groupset embraces electronic technology, promising a smooth and efficient riding experience.
Last year, Chinese OEM manufacturer WheelTop acquired a majority stake in Rotor, contributing its expertise in electronic bicycle derailleurs to Rotor's new venture. WheelTop is known for producing and offering electronic road and gravel shifters, derailleurs, and brakes.
The Uno groupset's brake levers feature carbon fiber lever blades and titanium handlebar clamps, offering a lightweight and durable construction. The brake levers run on CR1632 batteries and have a horizontal master brake cylinder for one-finger braking. Shimano pads and BH90 hydraulic hoses are compatible with the Uno groupset, ensuring a seamless integration with existing setups.
Currently, the Uno electronic groupset will be offered in Gravel and MTB variants. The MSRP for the MTB Uno groupset is less than €700, making it an affordable option for many cyclists. The gravel Uno groupset is priced around €800.
The new Uno groupset offers 1X, single-ring offerings, and the rear derailleur can work with 10-13 cassette sizes, potentially offering an advantage over current electronic rear mechs. Rotor's key offerings, such as cranksets and aftermarket drivetrain parts, will continue to be available alongside the new groupsets.
Rotor's Power app metrics will be incorporated into the new Uno groupset system in the future, allowing cyclists to track their performance data with ease. A Rotor Uno app will also be available for iOS and Android users to pair and customise the groupset.
The previous version of the Uno groupset was hydraulic and 13-speed. The new electronic groupset represents a significant leap forward in technology and performance. The flat mount brake callipers use a monobloc design and ceramic pistons for efficient and reliable braking. The addition of light CNC-machined cassettes and carbon Aldhu cranks provides an advantage weight-wise over competitors' components.
Rotor first launched the hydraulic Uno groupset in 2015. Now, with the relaunch of the Uno groupset platform, the Spanish brand has once again shown its commitment to innovation and quality in the cycling industry. The new gravel and MTB electronic, wireless groupsets are set to revolutionise the cycling experience for riders worldwide.
