The BMW iX3, the latest electric offering from the renowned German automaker, is making waves in the automotive world with its innovative digital presentation. Designed to evoke emotions and cater to tech enthusiasts and design lovers alike, the iX3's digital configurator transforms car buying into a game-like experience.
However, the iX3's digital playground offers more options than its real-world counterpart. At launch, the iX3 is initially offered in a limited color palette, including white, gray, black, and a single blue option. This limited selection stands in stark contrast to the wide array of digital colour choices available.
Customers can experiment and combine different wheel and interior options in this virtual playground. BMW offers a variety of wheel sizes up to 22 inches for the iX3, providing a sense of customisation. The interior options, on the other hand, include recycled PET, vegan Veganza upholstery, and exclusive individual designs.
Yet, the real equipment variety for the BMW iX3 is still significantly limited compared to the digital options. The iX3 is still only offered with a single powertrain at this point, providing a range of 805 km and 469 PS. The digital configurator does not seem to offer a wide variety of powertrain options, as only one was mentioned at launch.
The digital configurator allows users to rotate, open doors, and change perspectives, including a frog's-eye view. This immersive experience, while exciting, may create a tension between the excitement of the digital experience and the limitation of the real equipment options.
Despite the limitations, the BMW iX3's digital configurator is a step forward in the automotive industry, offering a unique and engaging way to configure and explore the features of the vehicle. The company selected by BMW brand representatives to develop the interior for the iX3 remains unnamed, adding to the mystery and anticipation surrounding this innovative electric SUV.
