EPBD Brings Mandatory EV Charging for Non-Residential Buildings by 2025
The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is set to introduce new rules for EV charging infrastructure in non-residential buildings. From 1 January 2025, such buildings with more than 20 parking spaces must have at least one charging point installed. By January 2027, the requirements will increase significantly.
CTEK advises car park owners and operators to plan ahead for these changes. From 2025, they must ensure at least one charging point is available. By 2027, one in ten car spaces must have charging, and 50% must have the infrastructure for future charging installations. New commercial buildings with ten or more car spaces must also have at least one EV charge point.
The directive focuses on non-residential buildings with car parks, aiming to expand EV charging infrastructure. Owners and operators of such buildings are required to meet these increased requirements by January 2027.
The new rules, part of the EPBD, come into effect on 1 January 2025, with further requirements by January 2027. CTEK urges car park owners and operators to familiarise themselves with these changes and plan accordingly for the rest of 2024.
