By the year 2040, AWS aims to sink a whopping 7.8 billion euros into Brandenburg. The initial announcement was made back in May 2024, though the exact locations for the new data centers remain under wraps. The cloud project is slated to begin by the end of 2025.
In his afternoon statement, Brandenburg's Minister of Economy, Daniel Keller (SPD), exclaimed that this investment would finally elevate Brandenburg into a leading IT hub within Germany. Interestingly, the subsidiary of Amazon—the online retail juggernaut—unveiled that the management team of the new parent company would comprise European nationals residing within the EU. European security and data protection experts will also play key roles in this endeavor.
