Estonia Set to Boost Military Power with 18 HIMARS Installations in U.S. Deal
Estonia is set to bolster its military capabilities with a significant boost in HIMARS installations, thanks to a proposed deal with the U.S. The deal, if approved, would see Estonia's HIMARS fleet increase to 18, a move welcomed by Estonia as it seeks to strengthen its role as a key NATO military outpost.
The U.S. has strategically approved an increased limit for military supplies to Estonia, totalling up to 4.73 billion euros. This includes an expansion of the HIMARS fleet to 18 installations, along with a substantial increase in ammunition stockpiles. Estonia will receive 200 ATACMS long-range missiles and 856 GMLRS missiles. The Estonian Defence Forces' artillery units have been pushing for this expansion, aiming to enhance their striking power in potential hostilities.
The deal is still subject to U.S. Congressional approval, and further details such as prices, quantities, and delivery timelines will be finalised in a separate contract.
If finalised, this deal will significantly enhance Estonia's military capabilities, allowing it to play a more robust role in NATO's eastern flank. The U.S.'s strategic bet on the Baltic States' military infrastructure is clear, and Estonia is poised to benefit from this increased support.
