Ethereum Launches 'Privacy Cluster' to Enhance Network's Confidentiality
The Ethereum Foundation has initiated a new project called 'Privacy Cluster', a dedicated effort to enhance privacy within the Ethereum ecosystem. Led by Igor Barinov, the cluster brings together 47 researchers and engineers to support key privacy features on Ethereum.
The Privacy Cluster aims to integrate privacy-focused developments into the Ethereum network. This includes projects like private transactions, decentralized identity solutions, zero-knowledge infrastructure, and preventing metadata leaks to enhance user privacy.
The cluster will focus on cutting-edge cryptography, institutional pilots, and improving everyday user experience in areas such as payments, governance, and identity. It will align with and support projects like Private Reads/Writes, Private Proving, Private Identities, Privacy Experience, and the Institutional Privacy Task Force. Kohaku, a privacy-preserving wallet and open-source software development kit, is a key project that the Privacy Cluster will focus on.
The Ethereum Foundation has previously funded this initiative by selling 1,000 ETH for R&D projects and grants. The Privacy Cluster will also coordinate various privacy initiatives and projects, including those previously undertaken by the Privacy Stewards of Ethereum (PSE) team since 2018.
The Ethereum Foundation's commitment to privacy is evident with the launch of the Privacy Cluster. This initiative, led by Igor Barinov, brings together a team of experts to support key privacy features on Ethereum. The cluster aims to improve privacy in various aspects of the Ethereum ecosystem, from user experience to institutional pilots, and will align with and support several key projects in this effort.
