Evolution in progress: Siemens propels the autonomy of its electric mobility division
Siemens, the global technology giant, has revealed the acquisition of Heliox, a leading innovator in DC fast-charging solutions. This strategic move bolsters Siemens' presence in Europe and North America, and signals a significant stride towards becoming a more agile and focused player in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
The acquisition enriches Siemens' capabilities in power electronics and broadens its offerings in the EV charging sector. Siemens eMobility, the dedicated business unit for the eMobility sector, established by Siemens in 2022, will merge with Heliox. This union combines Siemens' engineering prowess with Heliox's innovative spirit, creating a formidable force in the EV charging industry.
Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, stated that the new setup of eMobility will accelerate profitability. Rebellius, who will become the CEO of the Siemens eMobility spin-off, added that building up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is vital to achieving the electrification of transport, a key component in the goal to reach net zero by 2050.
Siemens eMobility offers IoT-enabled hardware, software, and services for both AC and DC charging, ranging from 11 kilowatts to 1 megawatt, covering a wide range of applications. With this acquisition, Siemens eMobility is set to build on its extensive investments and market expertise in the stock market today.
The new setup of Siemens eMobility is part of the company's strategy to concentrate on high-growth segments and geographies in the EV market. Once the carve-out is complete, Siemens eMobility and Heliox will operate within a dedicated legal structure. This separation aims to make Siemens a more agile and focused player in the electric vehicle market.
The new setup is expected to enable Siemens to foster new partnerships, expand sales channels, and tap into emerging end markets. Siemens eMobility, with its production and R&D sites across Germany, Portugal, the United States, India, and the Netherlands, is well-positioned to lead the way in sustainable mobility solutions.
With the acquisition of Heliox, Siemens eMobility is poised to become a key player in the EV charging industry. The company's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions and its focus on high-potential business segments and strategically relevant geographies make it an attractive partner for businesses and governments seeking to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
