**Tesla Set to Launch Extended Model Y L in China this Fall**

Tesla has announced that it will be launching a new variant of the Model Y, dubbed the Model Y L, in China this fall. The extended SUV will boast a three-row, six-seat configuration, a longer wheelbase, and a taller profile compared to the standard Model Y.

According to the registration with the Chinese Ministry of Industry, the Model Y L will feature an upgraded power output of around 455 hp, slightly higher than the standard Model Y's 443 hp. This power boost suggests improved acceleration and capability, although the exact 0-100 km/h times and top speed for the Model Y L have not been fully detailed yet.

The Model Y L will be 18 centimeters longer than the regular Model Y, measuring 4.976 meters in length, and will have a wheelbase of 3.04 meters, a 15-centimeter increase over the standard model. The wheelbase extension and increased height, at 1.688 meters, may contribute to a more spacious interior for passengers.

So far, the Model Y L has been confirmed only for a fall 2025 release in China. A U.S. (and other international markets) release is expected but not officially announced or priced yet. Given Tesla's pricing strategies, the Model Y L, featuring more space and more power, could be priced higher than current Long Range AWD variants once available internationally.

For context, the current Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD features dual motors, all-wheel drive, around 450 hp, and a range of approximately 311 miles (EPA) / 568 km (WLTP). The standard Model Y Long Range AWD is widely available in markets outside China, including the U.S. and Malaysia, with prices starting from about $54,000–$57,000 in the U.S. and RM 242,450 (~$54,000) in Malaysia respectively.

Tesla did not announce specific prices or more specific launch dates than "fall" (before the end of December) in its Wednesday announcements. The company also did not release any interior photos initially. However, US hacker @greentheonly discovered clear indications of a six-seater version of the Model Y in Tesla's firmware in June. Previous rumors about a Model Y with six or seven seats were primarily limited to China.

The Tesla Model Y L is anticipated to cater to the growing demand for spacious electric SUVs in China, where the three-row, six-seat configuration is more popular compared to other regions. The Model Y L's extended wheelbase, taller profile, and increased power output make it an attractive option for families seeking a spacious and powerful electric vehicle.
