Consequently, he granted them access to his crypto accounts, leading to the draining of over $4 million in digital assets, including valuable NFTs. Once drained, he was unceremoniously dumped in the desert, left to trudge five miles to a gas station where he managed to contact a friend for help.
Investigators are convinced that perhaps a fourth individual was remotely involved. Clues hint that a phone call on speaker was overheard during the ordeal, hinting at someone directing or coordinating with the teens. Authorities have yet to ascertain the identification of this individual.
The FBI is joining local law enforcement to dig deeper into this knife-edge case. A preliminary hearing for the two arrestees is lined up for June.
